How To Use Our Formulas

A clear, step-by-step application guide — applicable to all four formulas, with notes for newcomers.

Step By Step Guide

BEFORE YOU BEGIN

The Carrier Principle

DMSO is a carrier compound. This is its defining property — and it dictates everything about how it should be applied. Whatever is on your skin when you apply DMSO may be carried in with it: lotions, sunscreens, perfumes, makeup, even lingering residues of soap or fabric softener.

The rule is simple: apply DMSO to clean skin, not to skin that has anything else on it.

FOR FIRST-TIME USERS

Which Formula Should First-Time Users Start With?

Our recommendation for newcomers:

Start with our 60/40 DMSO + Distilled Water (The Introduction). It's the lightest formula in our line and the gentlest entry point into topical DMSO application. Once you're comfortable with how it feels and responds on your skin, you can step up to 50/50 (Everyday) or 70/30 (Botanical) at your own pace.

Step-By-Step Application

01

Prepare the skin

Wash the application area with a gentle, fragrance-free cleanser and rinse thoroughly. Pat completely dry with a clean towel. The skin should be dry to the touch and free of any residue — no lotion, no sunscreen, no perfume, no makeup.

02

Patch test (first-time users, always)

Apply 1-2 drops to a small area — the inside of the forearm is ideal. Wait 24 hours and observe how your skin responds. If you see significant redness, irritation, or discomfort beyond a mild, transient warmth, discontinue use. This applies to every formula in our line, regardless of concentration.

03

Dispense

Use the precision dropper to place 2-4 drops onto clean fingertips. For most applications, this is plenty — all of our formulas spread easily. Resist the temptation to use more.

04

Apply

Distribute the formula evenly across the target area using gentle pressure. Don't rub vigorously — a light, distributing motion is enough.

05

Allow to absorb

Give the product 3-5 minutes to absorb fully. The skin should feel dry before you cover it with clothing or apply anything else. If it still feels tacky, wait longer.

Absorption speed varies by formula: the 60/40 Water absorbs fastest, the 70/30 Botanical takes slightly longer due to the aloe component.

06

Wash hands

After application, wash your hands thoroughly to prevent accidental transfer to sensitive areas (eyes, lips, etc.).

What To Avoid

Applying to broken, irritated, inflamed, or open skin
Contact with eyes, mucous membranes, lips, or other sensitive areas
Layering with lotions, oils, or other topicals immediately before or after use
Applying through clothing or directly onto clothing
Using on children without consulting a qualified professional
Using during pregnancy or breastfeeding without medical guidance

What To Expect

Most users experience a mild, transient warmth upon application — a normal property of DMSO that typically subsides within minutes. A faint sulfur or garlic-like note may be present briefly, both during application and, occasionally, in the breath afterward. This is characteristic of DMSO metabolism, not a quality issue. Warmth and scent intensity vary by formula: the 99.995% Pure has the most noticeable effects; the 60/40 Introduction has the mildest.
